John Marshall High School

From the CNRG Mailing List:
Do you ever wish someone had helped you figure out what you wanted to do after high school? Do you see potential in youth and want to help them achieve it? If so, then you'd be a great ASPIRE volunteer at Marshall Campus. No experience is needed, just a desire to help youth and share your unique skills.

There are many different ways you can help:

Day Mentor works with individuals or groups of students who need help with choosing colleges, filling out applications, and more. Flexible schedule, times available are 8:00am-3:00pm Monday-Friday.

Guest Speaker comes in a few times to talk with classes or to groups of students during lunch or after school. Topics are chosen by the guest speaker, and can include How I Got Into My Career?, How College Helped Me?, etc. Flexible schedule, times available are 8:00-3:00pm Monday-Friday.

Evening Mentor same as a Day Mentor, but helps students in the night school program. Flexible schedule, times available are 5:00-8:00pm Monday-Thursday.

Office Helper helps keep the ASPIRE office running smoothly by helping type, do research, find information, make posters and flyers, deliver notes around the building, etc. Flexible schedule, times available are 7:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday.

Event Helper helps make sure events like family nights, field trips, etc. run smoothly. Scheduled depending on when the event is, usually on weekday evenings.

SAT or ACT Class Teacher teaches a one-day a week afterschool class for six weeks to help students do better on the SAT or ACT test. Times available are Mondays-Thursdays from 3:15-6:00pm.

If you're interested, three orientation sessions are coming up:

Tuesday, August 28th

Wednesday, August 29th

Thursday, August 30th

I like how this community died once the '04 class left for college or work...
Don't we have current students on this or did they just create another group for the 3 schools?

Graduating Male Seniors Planning on Attending U of O [Jun. 2nd, 2005|11:39 pm]
John Marshall High School

I hope this is okay to post...so sorry to the mods if it isn't...

I am looking for incoming freshmen guys going to U of O in the fall and who are interested in Greek Life. My boyfriend, Brent Smith (who doesn't have an LJ) is going to be a senior there (I just graduated from OSU) and he will be throwing various events this summer in the Portland area to meet with guys to show them what Greek Life and what his fraternity Phi Gamma Delta is all about.

FIJI, which is their nickname, is an international fraternity (they have chapters in Canada) that just came back on the U of O campus last year. This is the fraternity that Phil Night belonged to when he attended U of O. They have a house on the main part of Greek Row in Eugene and their house doesn't have sleeping porches. So every guy gets their own bedroom. This fraternity is still growing and shaping, so you guys can make this fraternity yours and build something great out of it.

I know it's not for everyone, but Greek Life is a great way to get involved in college. There are lots of social events, dances, exchange dinners with other sororities, community service projects, brotherhoods, retreats, and academic and scholarship programs.

I won't lie, Greek life is a huge commitment. It takes a lot of time, grades, community service, and some money. What you put in, is what you get back and you'll be able to carry it with you for life. It's amazing how much networking and support you can get from all the other chapters nation wide for active or Alumnae members.

All we're asking is for you to give it a shot and see what its all about. There isn't any commitment or obligations yet.

If anyone is interested and wants to learn more about FIJI and the events we'll be throwing this summer:

Post a message in here with your name and email. I will have Brent email you back or you can email Brent at trashman888@hotmail.com.

Also, if you have any questions, just post them and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks.

Hey. I'm not sure of those who knew, or those who would like to know, but I'm going to post this anyway! A youg individual of the name NICK SAPP, had died on May 12th, 2005, of this year. He was in a car accident, and his car flipped ontop of another car once he lost control on 89th and Foster Rd, it split his car in half... You may be thinking that name sounds fimilar, because it is, Sapp went to Marshall HS, and I'm pretty sure also Binnsmead, if not Binnsmead, it was Lane..
